The nearby destinations located within the Gulf of Fethiye include the YassicaButterfly Valley Turkey Islands, the blue lagoon (Oludeniz: Dead Sea), the ancient city of Caunos where you can visit the King Rock Tombs high above on the side of the rock cliffs. To get there will require a riverboat trip through the tall reeds of the Dalyan. Dalyan is a small charming town that becomes very popular in the Spring and Summer months with tourists and foreigners who own villas or other properties.  This region is quite well recognized for its therapeutic mud baths.

Other places to visit when in the Fethiye region – other than seeing the sarcophagus in the streets – are the impressive ancient Rock Tombs from the Lycians, situated in the cliffs at the southern part of the city.

The sarcophagi, carved from stone are found around the city streets, particularly one in the governor’s office building grounds.  There is another one located as you head uphill towards the Lycian cave tombs.  More in can be seen in the town of Kayakoy.
