During our recent travels around the villages of Marmaris, our route lead us for a visit to the charming little village of Selimiye, located just over a half an hour away from the main harbor of Marmaris, Turkey. To get to Selimiye by car is quick – a mere 40 minute drive. By sea it takes about 6 hours. However either way of transportation will offer a delight of sea views along the way.
The coastal paved road begins from the village of Hisaronu, followed by the town of Orhaniye, then Turgut and finally Selimiye. If you go by sea, the direction of this route is the other way around. Again, either way will prove to be a most pleasant excursion. As a matter of fact, the whole region is excellent for travelers on biking trips as well.
As much as the roads are not congested with traffic – even during the summer months, the boat traffic is just as few by sea. Selimiye is a highly favored place for weekend get-a-ways from cities such as Marmaris, Izmir, Istanbul and Ankara – as well as other parts of Turkey. It is famed for the lovely seafood restaurants that line the shore. The panoramic views are ultimately breathtaking, and no matter what volume of traffic there is in Selimiye, you can always find total peace and quiet all year round.
If your travels from Marmaris on a gulet charter lead you this way, a stop in the village of Selimiye might be a colorful addition to your gulet charter itinerary. This is an area filled with lush green hilltops, emerald green waters – so clear that you can see the bottom, and a plethora of great restaurants to dine for fresh seafood dishes while you take in all that impressive scenery.
