There are many combinations in planning out an itinerary for your luxury yacht charter vacation Historical sites in the Mediterranean and Aegean sea regions. It’s such a big area to cover. If we direct our compasses to the country of Turkey, you will find that with a country so rich in archeological ruins, you are bound to come across at least one site from the past.

But say for the purpose of the title, your aim was to see the most in that one week period you have booked a private gulet trip. Then you should organize your gulet holiday in the Mediterranean. Embarkation would be either Historical city Fethiye or Gocek.

Keep in mind that should you want to add the Greek Islands, you will or rather should, add another week to your trip – otherwise you won’t have the time to go that far out. So we are now concentrating on the Mediterranean side of Turkey. What are the sort of places we can see. Well it’s a bit of a go out and then come back in route.

Gulet Itinerary With The Most In Historical Places To Visit

Hypothetically your route can start in Fethiye. Then it’s gulet cruising all the way to Demre where you will find the ancient Church of St. Nicolas. Yes, it’s Santa. 🙂 A very interesting place filled with frescos on the interior walls. Of course before you reach the furthest end of your route there will be other places to drop anchor in too.

Ancient sites of Xanthos, Patara are must-sees. Then there are the towns of Kas and Kalkan. You will love the old white washed houses with blue shutters and doors, blanketed with begonias and narrow cobblestone streets.

There is also the ancient sunken city of Simena otherwise known as Kekova. A small hike takes you to the castle top of Kalekoy for a breathtaking surprise of panoramic historical views.

The Fethiye region offers a great deal of historical sites as well – particularly if you go inland when moored at the pier. Rock tombs off cliffs and lycian sarcophagus – just to name a few. The bulk of the Lycian ruins and history reside on the Mediterranean of Turkey.
